The local store has been out of my special restricted-diet ingredient for a week, and I kept having to go look for it.

Today I got some from another store, and now I can hunker down and not go out for a while. We have everything else, and I was already set up to work from home.

Crocus! Crocuses even, since there were 3 types in good number and an outlier whose troupe will be joining in at some point.

I'm working from home for now, and worrying about my adult kids who work at a bank and thus have to face potentially-contagious customers.

Recuperating from the gall bladder removal means lots of sleeping... it was 11 hours last night! Hopefully, tonight will be closer to 9 hours (which turns out to be kind of normal for me!)

Dug into the freezer for some chicken thighs I had put in there ages ago and I found a bag of '16 bean soup'... so I have what we call 'stupe' (more stew-y than soup-y) working so we can eat that as needed over the next few days.

I find I like to have a pot of 'something' in the fridge at all times... it's a comfort to have ready-made food that I can just add salad or a sandwich to make a meal.

took out the trash & collected my mail, and ventured out today - it was in between rains and I just needed fresh air and a change of scenery. drove around a bit astounded by light traffic even on the major streets, hit the ATM and the closest I cam to anyone was picking up fast food on the way home. it was nice! now I'll stick close to home for a while longer, but I needed that reminder that life is still going on out there (changed, but happening)

I slept very badly last night, which can trigger my epilepsy. I had aura problems at several points today, but I was able to nap and get things mostly under control. If I can sleep well tonight, I should be okay tomorrow. But it's obvious that my baseline stress levels are high enough that I'm going to have to be more careful than usual.

I'm waiting for karma to balance itself out. I've had so many good media-related news recently, something is bound to give.

Aaanyway, yesterday I took a walk after work (working remotely is going alright, at least I can listen to anything from my music library and sing along as loud as I want, music as a coping mechanism, brilliant!) and did some of the dishes from the previous evening's cooking. I also re-watched a movie and caught up with my DW inbox. And then it was time for bed.

And I did call Mom. They're okay, just going a little stir-crazy stuck at home. I'm doing okay now but I'm sure home sickness will hit me at some point since I usually visit my parents at least once a month. Oh boy... One day at a time, people.

I broke down and cancelled my July flight home. :( The agent on the phone at first told me there'd be a fee (significant) for cancelling, but I said, "Excuse me?" in *that* kind of voice, and she said, oh sorry I was mistaken. There is no charge to cancel due to the virus.

Damn skippy right. I'm side-eyeing the airline. Possibly it was because they think they can dick with foreigners, but oh hell no. (It's a chinese airline)

Still no word on school. Latest rumor is that primary school will resume April 20. I really hope so.

I'm doing okay, I suppose. I actually got a proper night's sleep last night. First time in weeks. The two benadryl I took before bed probably helped. ;)

I've been in this apartment almost a year and still haven't dealt with all the legos. I'm hoping to make progress on that today. Wish me luck.

Brought all my bits and pieces home to work from home full time, which seems like kind of a big thing. I like my office and the people I work with and I'm going to miss them.

We've still had no cases here but it can't be far away; before the borders closed on Tuesday a whole convoy of grey nomads raced across and are right now probably scattering the virus everywhere they go.

Just realized last night why it was so very very quiet... my entire life there's been a factory going a couple blocks away (I think it makes cardboard boxes). And it's always, always a background noise of steam and machinery, which I just pretty much filter out.

But silence.

So weird.

Even after hurricanes when my house and all the neighbors were without power for a month, the factory kept going. It feels so odd...

Woke up early today and boiled some cotton fabric for the next batch of non-medical, better than nothing, face masks. The online custom fabric printing place where I put up my designs for a commission is planning to convert their home decor sewn stuff division to making face masks. Theirs will probably look much more official. Mine are made from the remnants of many years of patchwork quilt making.

I just finished my first few. Trying to get up to speed. I put pics on my DW if anyone's curious.

The cold symptoms I had at the beginning of the week are gone, my nose is no longer running like it's training for the olympics. \O/

Had to go into work today because since parent company is a supermarket chain we count as key workers, and so I spent half an hour washing the earbuds off headsets and then doing online courses for two and a half hours. Yay. -_-

Popped over here via a couple people's links, thank you! I'm doing fine at the moment (Madison, Wisconsin in the States, for the record). Lonelier than I thought I'd be, and feeling a bit like a pebble in a tin can rattling around, but it could be much, much worse.

Doing OK, mostly. Except for finances, which...I'm so sick of talking about. I never feel like I'll ever be anything except bleeding red. *sighs*

We're in isolation, athough; one of my housemates has symptoms, and I have a slight cough and an intermittant sor throat. No fever though, thankfully, and none of the other symptoms.

It's just...while there are two other people (three with the toddler) I still feel alone here. It's so weird.

Candle Making is not hard at all. As long as you have access to a stove and a making kit, it's pretty easy and also really weirdly soothing. There's a flow to it.

If you want to learn more about it, this is the site I buy pretty much all my stuff from: CandleScience

I can throw together a list of essential supplies if you would like. Or a quick how-to video.

Yeah. It's been soothing for me and at the end you have lovely smelling things.

I get all my supplies here CandleScience and I can put together an essentials list and maybe a how-to video if you would be interested?

Hell yes! Please.

...

Keep in mind that I am completely blind. XDescriptions of every step of the process would be a good thing.

Not that I can't do it, only that along the way, I'd have to make tool modifications. :d

Well, it's begun. We have 2 cases here and they won't be the last. Two weeks too late, the government have stopped people getting off international flights and taking domestic flights to wherever they live, which is how we got the two cases we have now - and the ones we don't know about yet who will have been on the plane with them or in the servo where they fuelled up or the shop where they bought groceries.

I live in a region with the greatest concentration of Aboriginal people in the country, people with multiple chronic diseases who are incredibly vulnerable to infectious disease. Preventative care is all we have. I'm pretty angry at this point.

Wax (flakes or a brick - I use flakes) - you can choose between soy, paraffin, and beeswax. I prefer soy wax but your mileage might vary.

A melting/pouring pitcher

a food scale

a craft thermometer

scents/dyes

masking tape

sharpie marker

chopsticks

a stove

a large pot for pitcher to sit in (melting the wax is a double boiler system)

pan or tray for candles to sit on and cure (also helps with mess)

wicks/wick stands

gluegun to attach the wicks to the bottom of the jars.

containers to put the wax in ( I reuse my glass pasta jars all the time - but there are also several sizes of mason jars that work very well too)

Michaels in the US does a lot of deals so you can get a lot there for not too much money and then Candle Science also has premade kits you can buy for first timers
