Last night I dropped a small vegetable knife that managed to fall point first onto my left big toe and actually pierced the toe nail so it bled. I'm still feeling wtf about the slapstick misfortune aspect, though as far as kitchen knife accidents go it's better than cutting of a finger tip or something, but also, my toe is still hurting a bit this morning when anything touches the toenail area the knife hit, and it's not sandal weather today.

Oh no. Here's to healing quick and being able to wear weather suitable shoes with comfort.

Ouch! One of those things that you couldn't recreate if you tried.

If you have or can find some cheap, cloth-topped shoes, you can cut a hole over the big toe area. Of course, that's a ruined pair of shoes, and your finances may not be able to support that. But if you can, your toe will thank you -- as I learned years ago when I broke off the tip of the big-toe bone.

Keep an eagle-eye out for infection. I'm not a doctor, but my gut says that a wound below the nail bed could be problematic.

Yeah I wondered about the dirty knife poking me, it's not like I could clean there, but it seems the bit of bleeding maybe helped. It's not swollen or anything and today wasn't more tender than a stubbed toe in a shoe. There's a tiny bruise under the nail where the knife hit, but it has mostly stopped hurting. So thankfully I don't think it'll escalate into any serious injury. It was just really cartoonish.

Yeah, bleeding helps cleanse the wound; glad it feels better today.

But I just realized -- if you're not up on your tetanus shots, you should get one. Much better safe than sorry.

It does sound cartoonish. Really, the weight of the handle should have pulled it sideways; it would have been much likely to hurt you.

Tetanus is part of a combi vaccine that I had boosted not that long ago because of the pertussis resurgence because apparently too few vaccinate against that now too, not just measles or covid. So it should be fine.

Good to know. And of course -- you know that I meant much LESS likely, right? *shame face* My brain runs faster than my fingers.
