Date: 2024-08-22 10:33 am (UTC)Argh!
Just zoomed with my partner, who is currently in London,
and he has COVID! :(
I am very glad I sent him off with a box of Paxlovid. (Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir.)
I told him to
a) rest up as much as he can
b) drink as much water as he can
c) keep masking and taking precautions so he doesn't end up with a second strain of COVID on top of the first.
He's going to go to museums and theatre in London while sick, which is not the decision that I would make
(both to avoid sharing my germs, and to avoid the risk that not resting = greater risk of Long Covid) but he's an adult and I am not the boss of him.
He's been wearing an N95 while travelling - he probably caught COVID eating indoors in restaurants
(I suggested he only eat outdoors, but he said the outdoor tables had too much secondhand cigarette smoke)

Date: 2024-08-22 11:30 am (UTC)Have spent the day awake and poking at small tasks that take a long time; this is the better version of jetlag than partner has, who says that what they've done all day is 'try not to nap'.

Date: 2024-08-23 12:11 am (UTC)If you have or can find some cheap, cloth-topped shoes, you can cut a hole over the big toe area. Of course, that's a ruined pair of shoes, and your finances may not be able to support that. But if you can, your toe will thank you -- as I learned years ago when I broke off the tip of the big-toe bone.
Keep an eagle-eye out for infection. I'm not a doctor, but my gut says that a wound below the nail bed could be problematic.

Date: 2024-08-23 02:23 am (UTC)But I just realized -- if you're not up on your tetanus shots, you should get one. Much better safe than sorry.
It does sound cartoonish. Really, the weight of the handle should have pulled it sideways; it would have been much likely to hurt you.
