My hip is angry at me; I am angry at it. I have medications in some appropriate categories, and am having some tedious pain before they kick in.

It was my youngest sister's birthday today. The quarantine bubble gathered for pot roast and mashed potatoes from scratch. Got to play with my one year old nephew.

I got the first shot of the Moderna yesterday. So far, sore arm and headache but not much more in terms of reaction. It is slowly sinking in that soon I will be able to do things again -- but that also comes with a stack of postponed medical/dental visits that I hope I can space out. I don't want to deal with everything at once. Even so, it feels like one step closer to being alive and free again. Just the idea that I might be able to go out (in a mask) and not feel terrified if someone gets too close is liberating. I have not been able to go walking in the park at the bottom of the street for months, since it always has unmasked basketball players, bicycle riders and playground mothers, all of whom should know better.

I'm really depressed. We are now in an accelerating third wave here, with infections rising rapidly *again* (there were barely even any restrictions eased, I guess the UK variant really is that much worse), and vaccination is going so very slowly here. I'm going to miss my younger niece's birthday again this week, so that's now two years in a row.
