I got to play in the dirt and yeah, it's terrible quality dirt (a lot of clay) and I'm *still* picking shards of glass out of it because freakin' rednecks, but I've planted six rows of vegetable seeds ... so about a quarter of what's planned, maybe a little less.

Though if I could figure out how to apply for further financial assistance so I could get some more gardening tools (like some pruning shears and maybe a hand scythe), that would be nice. On the one hand, they say unemployment has been expanded to freelancers ... and on the other, they keep saying the systems are all crashing from so many applying at once.

But we're managing to get groceries. Even if a friend of tried to suggest we appeal to a local church for help (I'm Buddhist-Pagan, wife's agnostic). Ah, living in the rural South....

One of my relatives applied for unemployment (online) yesterday; he did succeed, but it took three hours to get all the way through what is designed as a short-and-streamlined process.
