finally got our washer and dryer and have since done ... three and a half loads of laundry? It's been ... awhile since we had a working washing machine, things got backed up rather a lot. And there are some things for which hand washing just isn't a viable option (denim, looking at you), so yeah.

Still need some form of actual, substantive UBI to exist, but I'm not holding my breath. But the things it would make easier is ... quite the list at this point.

My mother still tells the story of the time, thirty years ago, when The Sears Repairman Did Not Fix the Washing Machine and what an enormous difference it made, weeks later, finally being able to *do laundry*.

At the start, when we still had a working dryer, it wasn't completely terrible to hand wash things every couple of days or so. But bedding was hard to manage that way and jeans were a non-starter, so yeah. Having time our laundry around the heat of the day, but other than that, it's such a relief!

Anyone else having trouble concentrating? I'm having a hard time focusing on anything, work or fannish. All I want to do is look at the news, but it doesn't get any better the more I look at it.

YES. I don't even want to look at the news, really. I want to sprawl out in bed and just ... play mobile games. But then after awhile I don't even want to do that. It's making me a little crazy.

So much yes. I find myself just watching soothing cute animal videos to quiet the echoing of the news in my head. At least I also stress-clean, so I guess I'm getting something constructive accomplished anyway.

I don't have a TV, but had to pull away from the online news weeks ago because it was making me feel hopeless.

So now I wind up doing on-line jigsaw puzzles. The feeling of accomplishment is spurious, but at least for a few minutes I'm distracted.
