I went back to the office (two half-days) last week for the first time since the end of March and it was strange. But also good, in that I got a tangible connection to the work I do again. Things are very restricted: no fridges or microwaves to be used, break-out spaces taped up, regular checks by the Work Environment Group to make sure we're behaving. I don't think these will be relaxed any time soon, given the situation in Victoria (Aus), but it was invigorating.

Mostly my yard operates on the volunteer system- if a plant sprouts I let it live until lI see if I like it (e.g. pretty flowers or feeds caterpillars that become butterflies, or nectars and feeds butterflies, or even attracts bugs that birds like to eat, etc. etc.). I also try from time to time to grow easy care flowers- hope to have some zinnia and marigold soon- found some old seeds and figured it's worth a try.

Last night I had our neighbor, sans mask, hand me mail that got put in his box by mistake.
Today, wife's 90yo grandfather came by for a (MASKLESS) visit between church and going out for post-church brunch.
Tomorrow we're to finally take delivery of our new washer and dryer. After which we will be back in self-quarantine mode again because that's a lot of second-hand contact and the red-hats can't decide if the virus is a leftist hoax or just a thing we need to learn to live with, even if it means thousands of dead kids and millions of people permanently disabled in a system that will completely collapse as a result.

I'm tired of living in a region that is run by people who refuse to acknowledge the point of having a society is to take care of each other and are busy being angry this isn't the guncore end times scenario they were promised.

*VIRTUAL HUGS* I had the mailman cheerfully hand me a parcel a couple of days ago. I was working in the yard (maskless because just ME in my own yard) and I was close to the gate, trimming a bush, and I hear 'Hey' and LOOK UP and he's RIGHT there. Maskless, hand out an inch from me. And not going to leave until I grab the parcel.

Damn it. So, back to being paranoid if I sneeze or cough. My area is controlled by IDIOTS who are sure there's no harm in people going to the beach in crowds, or being audiences for wrestling, or gathering to gossip in public coffee places. And of course if the officials say it's fine, then why should the average person fuss over masks or contact?

Yeah, the really disheartening thing is it's obvious people around here just ... don't understand how serious this virus still is. In some ways, being in a rural area makes it easier, but on the other hand we're also having to spend more because we can't get delivery from a lot of places (we're juuust outside the "city" line). But yeah, now I'm going to spend two weeks worried and then probably some more time worried about what if I'm just asymptomatic? With a side of horrible visions of my wife getting it and being cut off from any help and AUGH!

The people in charge just want to stick their heads in the sand. They figure oh, it can't be that bad, it'll be over soon, we can't be scaring people by insisting they be careful and take it seriously, science is wonderful, any day now we'll have a cure/vaccine/miracle from above...

Learned yesterday -- from a blog -- that an older friend I have known for most of seven years from Second Life died two months ago, and nobody who knew her posted anything. We had thought she was taking time off to take care of her son, who had been ill, and nobody expected this. She was fun and bouncy and acted as a DJ at parties and at her own dances every week for years, who created wonderful places to hang out and explore, who made room for my experimental work at her art gallery, who was always up for trying something new and fun. And now those of us who knew her are more or less sitting around and looking at each other and saying, 'what?!' Thing is, online relationships can be very close, and she had a lot of us for friends -- but apparently her family didn't realize that, and didn't tell anyone at all. One of us found out by accident by finding an obituary that doesn't seem to be there any more; apparently the funeral home erases them after a month? Someone I don't even know wrote the blog, about a different aspect of her life in SL (we all have multiple aspects and interests). And I am sitting here thinking of seeing her inworld in February running the music for a blues night, with no hint of illness or tiredness or anything but pure enjoyment, and that was the last time any of us saw her.

...Emotional more than anything. ...

I have no regrets on how I spend my money. ... or not really anyway. I've been gfeeling a bit guilty because I can't seem to want to pay off more than one debt (I still have a huge chunck in both a mortgage and a smaller credit card that I shouldd've been nibbling away at)...but OI just can't bring myself to cair.

I love helping out my room mates and giving them small, mutually beneficial, gifts to do this.

...

And now I'm overdrawn because, dammit, there were som things I thought had come out that didn't, and now I'm like $40 in the whole, and I want to friggin' order in tonight. That's what I feel the most guilty about. Because I promised myself I wouldn't overdraw again... and...well. *sighs*

This shit...I hat my brain sometimes. I know it happens, and I know this time I won't be constant, but my anxiety says "Here we go again-right back where we were...endless loop..."

I can't get it to fucking shut up.

My kitty's in the emergency hospital. I was there for three hours last night, and they don't even really know what's wrong, but has some kind of infection they think. I don't know how I'm going to afford it on top of my expenses for my surgeries this year, and that's even assuming he lives and will be okay. I signed up for pet insurance, but am still in the waiting period, so this is like the worst kind of irony.
