I wouldn't have thought so if you're securing the ends, but I am not a sewist, so *shrugs* I guess it might also depend on the kind of hair ties you're using?

Oh,, okay. So are those ones that you would tie/untie as opposed to looping over ears?

Yes, you'd tie/untie. That also has the advantage that you can adjust the fit. The pattern I'm using is more complicated than you'd probably want- a single 40 to 45 inch long tie that passes through two sides of the mask, so you put the loop over your head and pull on the free ends to fit and then tie the ends at the back of your neck.

Most of the patterns I've seen use four ties, one each top and bottom corner. Takes longer to put on, but far simpler to sew!

Oh, okay. I may end up seeing if I can mod that with some tutorials I've seen on the internets. (I have no working printer, so anything that needs printing off to use is not happening)
