All family Christmas plans are now in limbo, because my brother's dodgy knee failed on him, and he doesn't know whether he can host as planned.

Why do these things always have to happen for the holidays?? (I realize the effect is probably a combination of the extra stress making bodies fail more, and recollection bias for holiday dates, but still.)

Bummer! I hope his knee improves soon.

I think that's it -- so much stress that any little extra can cross over into "too much".

If your family planned to gather at your brother's because he has the space... would it be possible to gather there anyway, with everyone else doing the work while your brother rests his knee in his favorite easy chair? If he can be persuaded to not be active (which I know is hard for some people), he might be relieved that he hasn't "spoiled Christmas."

Whatever happens, I hope it all works out for you.

The logistics problem is mostly bound up in that he recently moved out of easy public transport range l (there's a bus from the train station but that only runs on weekdays), and I don't drive and neither does my sister. And it might be still possible to arrange taxis in advance -- though somewhat of a problem, since the trip from him to the station is short enough by car that it's barely worth the fare, but there's not enough taxi demand to pick up multiple rides. But all his preparation errands (and just his general life to be honest) also depended on him being able to drive.

That does complicate things. My apologies; I forget that driving isn't a universal activity.

Going for Vaccine Dose # 5 today. Had an issue with the cellphone provider website last night, but it seems to have resolved this morning. Job search continues with all the Pandemic-induced complications that go with it.

Yay for booster doses! And I admire your stick-to-it-ivity; I hope you find a good position soon.

So do I. It's been nine months. Being a Designated Care Partner to a dementia patient in slow decline during this pandemic is complicating the ethics of the process. I'm not the only DCP to this person, but I'm the one who's most available most days in part because of being unemployed right now.

That is tough. I was fortunate to be retired when Dad needed the help. Holding down a job + being a caregiver isn't easy to manage.
