I didn't stay out of the house long enough for my peace of mind or anyone else's in the house today.

Sometimes the timing just doesn't work on that. Best wishes to the entire household.

The number of sick people here who have either the flu, covid (somewhat less prominent rn) or just some unspecified respiratory crud is kind of staggering. And pediatric hospitals are apparently so swamped with RSV that it's critical.

My Russian course was canceled today too, because the teacher is sick. Last week I felt a bit like a weirdo for being the only one in the course who still masks, but clearly it's very necessary still to at least have a chance against the current viral soup, even while vaccinated and boosted etc.

Both my nieces are also out from school with something.

Yes, I'm still masking too. The beautiful thing about masks is that they also protect against flu really excellently, and against colds pretty well, and help with anything else respiratory that's going around.

There's some evidence that covid can weaken your immune system for up to a year afterward; that may be part of why so many people are having an extra-hard time even with more-familiar viruses this year.

Yeah, I've read that. I've been lucky enough to escape covid so far and the more we learn, the less I want it.
