The pandemic situation is awful here right now. New infections reached their highest numbers ever, and though deaths are better than last winter for now, they aren't great either.

I don't know your home state (mine is Illinois) but I've been reading that the numbers are going up almost everywhere. *heavy sigh*

I'm in Germany. It's bad all over central Europe. In Germany we still haven't reached 70% overall vaccination rate because of the anti-vaxxer conspiracy and alternative medicine woo people.

Ooops...apologies for assuming "state" instead of saying "state or country". Here in the States I was just reading so much the last several days about the numbers going up here that my mind just wasn't on worldwide when I made that comment.

NP. We actually have the same issue as the US with coordinating measures nationwide, because health is a state responsibility, so the federal government has to facilitate consensus with all 16 state governments...

Cases are holding stead here, but at the same level as our first big wave. And while that was treated as a crisis, too many people here are acting like 'it's over, back to normal life'.

Here we still have mask mandates in stores and public transport, school children get rapid tests several times a week, and restaurants and entertainment venues are supposed to only let people with green passes in, but enforcement is often lackadaisical, and all that doesn't help when people meet privately like normal and everybody goes to work.

It's scary, even with vaccinations. Hang in there! Even in NZ, Delta is kicking our collective ass.

I'm really fed up with the anti-vaxxers here. Germany has still not reached 70% overall vaccination rate, because somehow the crackpot crowd is only okay with big pharma and modern medicine when it helps them very invasively in overcrowded hospitals, but not when it nudges their own, still entirely natural immune system a bit.

I really hope they'll market the upcoming vaccine still waiting for approval here, that's just dead virus with none of the cool mRNA or vector virus stuff, as "all natural" or "traditional vaccine" or something, to at least convince some of the holdout people.
