okay hive mind, I need some help cuz I am like completely overwhelmed trying to sort this shit out on my own and since 2FA is increasingly being a thing that demands you fork over a mobile phone number, I need a mobile phone and plan. But I don't want to spend any serious money on it - I don't have a number/plan right now because I don't work, I don't call anyone, and anyway cell coverage where we live is spotty at best - I'd be better off using wireless calling at home and since I'm housebound, I have zero interest in unlimited minutes or *any* amount of data, just a number and text messaging. But there are SO MANY discount cell service companies out there now and trying to sort through them all gives me a headache, especially since a lot of them have at best mixed reviews? Help?

I don't know and, since this was posted later than a lot of people answered the poll, they may not have seen it. But it's my turn to post the poll again tonight; I'll add a link back to this question so others will see it.

First, read this from consumer reports.

My gut reaction is that even the cheapest cell phone plan is too expensive, & if you can't get a reliable signal it won't work for authentication, anyway.

I'll ask around.
