con crash is real. I've got no regrets (well, one thing I missed for health reasons I really wanted to go to). But I'm going to miss my con.

The one convention I was expecting to be able to attend, Can-Con, has postponed in-person attendance to 2022, having skipped 2020 and 2021 in favour of an online-only hosting of the Aurora Awards this fall.

That's probably the more responsible route. I live in a tourism heavy city and the mayor is pushing hard to "safely reopen". The con couldn't push the end another year with local restrictions being what they were.

Normally, being a national capital city, Ottawa also relies on tourism for a large chunk of its daily bread. Can-Con, as a convention is part of that economic sector as much as of the entertainment industry's literary sub-sector (EG: novels, comics, etc.). So, definitely in agreement on this point.
