please think good thoughts for my household. my roomie's father is dying and the docs are pretty damn sure it's going to be this weekend and they had their last phone call yesterday while he was still lucid and we can't be there because he's in NYC and we're not and even if we were, they still wouldn't let us in the hospital.

also we just had to drop one of the kittens off at the emergency vet because of blockage and he's going to need hospitalization and probably surgery and we're a lot out of cope right now.

I'm hormonal today so all the everything has been hitting me worse than usually. I'm so anxious and sad. The news in New York, where I live.... My situation is better than a lot of other people's! Which makes me feel kind of guilty about feeling this way?

It really has reached a point where all the laundromats in my neighborhood have closed, with no signs saying when or if they'll reopen, so I had to drive around Queens looking for an open one. I ended up washing my clothes at a place almost two miles away. I don't know what all the many other people in my neighborhood who don't have washers or dryers in their buildings are doing. I can handwash my mask but not everything.

WTH? I mean, laundromats sure sound pretty "essential" to me. But they may be running on such a shoestring that crowd control and extra cleaning is more than they can afford.

Laundromat #1 was open awhile then closed and put up a sign saying they were going "on vacation" and would reopen in two weeks. That was more than two weeks ago. Laundromat #2 put up a sign saying that "about April 15" they'd close and be on vacation for two weeks. They closed April 11 and that sign has been taken down. I don't know when the other two closed, and they didn't put signs up.

If you have a bathtub, it's possible to wash clothes in it. I've done when I had to. It's not ideal. Neither is hanging them up on lines or racks to dry. Shampoo works as detergent if you run out; alternatively, slightly diluted detergent can work as shampoo.

Don't feel guilty about your situation; life is hard enough without adding guilt for things you can't control.

Using the bathtub is possible, but I'm disabled with some balance and strength issues, so repeatedly lifting things up and putting things down and levering myself up and down can be risky sometimes. We'd also need to buy racks, and the apartment is small.

I have been reading the (AU, fictional with cameos from real hockey players) Superstition series. Starts at worship of the hockey gods and proceeds to impulsive Las Vegas marriage; at the point I'm at now, these two [fond term for hockey-obsessed young men who need to work on their emotional communication and awareness] have figured out a long-distance polyfuckerous setup, more or less. Later bits include learning terrible things about mentors and coping with that, which I appreciated for reasons.
