I have been listing myself as 'not ok' because of all the tension I've been dealing with, every day till the election. Not all day, but enough of it. We are maybe 2 miles from the edge of DC, and I am hearing from friends that businesses in downtown DC are boarding up their windows in anticipation of violence next week. This is law offices, ordinary businesses, not just restaurants -- and the restaurants are only doing take-out now, nothing else. It would be a difficult and disturbing time under any circumstances, this election -- but worse with COVID out there, since the county has a higher infection rate than several small countries. So the frustration level at not being able to go anywhere, having nowhere *to* go, and stress, is very high.

On the positive side -- yes, there is a positive side -- neither of us in the house have the virus, the food is holding out (we stocked up for the next few weeks, in case some idiots shut down the roads and the longhaul truckers carrying food can't get in), and I managed to start my Yuletide story after a couple of false starts.

I've been fluctuating, because massive state uptick as far as mortality, with major rallies and only some guidance for how people daily can keep social without high risk. At least I'm situated where my door isn't within the 6'-15' of someone else's door.

Yeah, a bit back I lucked into a few things that "that's a useful, it's on sale" and I can not go out for provisions if I think it's a bad choice. Looks like people nearby mostly chose the 'nope, not tricker treater this year' so that's a good sign some people are weighing things.

6 hours of phone banking today (Saturday). 6 hours planned for tomorrow & Election Day. Completely exhausting but THAT'S THE POINT: if I work myself to exhaustion, I won't be anxious & fretful.

I especially recommend helping with a relatively local campaign (in my case Congressional) because it feels more neighborly, person-to-person .. .also you know more about the situation on the ground.
