It's a mystery- yes, it's a photo of a dead fish, lying on the ground and no knowing how it got there.

Will try to post more cheerful pics today- have got other stuff to do, so I'll space them out.

It has rips in the belly, so maybe a hawk or similar caught it, then dropped it on the way home?

That could be... a few miles away from me there's a large park with some winding lakes and I HAVE seen a red-tailed hawk there on two occasions.

Can't think why it would carry a fish so far, when there's plenty of big old trees in the park where it could eat in peace (and really no suitable nesting areas for hawks in my suburbian landscape), but it's Possible. :^)

In case anyone was mildly curious, this has a photo of my sewing room set up where I made bias tape ties for face masks. There's a lot of reuse/repurpose/recycle theme going on. :^)

I'm miles away from the ocean- there are canals a little closer, and there's a park with a series of man made lakes that has a few kinds of fish in it.

At sunset sometimes I see flocks of gulls flying past my home so the ocean isn't unfeasibly distant by wing, it just seems too far to be hauling something that heavy.

Sure, you can post the vampire fish on Twitter. Hialeah, in south Florida-- not counting canals the nearest water would be the lakes in Amelia Earhart park..

Huh I just googled and people not only fish there, they tell what kind of fish they caught. They only mention 3 species none of which look like the vampire.

And for the bird lovers, here's some pretty pics I took. 2 species of warbler, a blue jay and a mockingbird.

It's not a barracuda. Body is the wrong shape.

After some googling, I'm pretty sure it's in the perch family. Teeth are a dead ringer for a walleye perch's mouth, but I'm not sure about the rest of the fish. Too bad the colors are faded from decay.
