Date: 2020-07-12 05:17 pm (UTC)Can't think why it would carry a fish so far, when there's plenty of big old trees in the park where it could eat in peace (and really no suitable nesting areas for hawks in my suburbian landscape), but it's Possible. :^)

Date: 2020-07-12 07:52 pm (UTC)How far are you from salt water? from brackish water? It's possible it was dropped by an osprey, but I really do wonder if you got a rain of fish.

Date: 2020-07-12 07:58 pm (UTC)At sunset sometimes I see flocks of gulls flying past my home so the ocean isn't unfeasibly distant by wing, it just seems too far to be hauling something that heavy.

Date: 2020-07-12 08:47 pm (UTC)Huh I just googled and people not only fish there, they tell what kind of fish they caught. They only mention 3 species none of which look like the vampire.

Re: Dead Vampire Fish??
Date: 2020-07-13 02:18 am (UTC)After some googling, I'm pretty sure it's in the perch family. Teeth are a dead ringer for a walleye perch's mouth, but I'm not sure about the rest of the fish. Too bad the colors are faded from decay.
