Last night we got snow, actually the very first snow this season (there may have been some flakes, but nothing that amounted to a cover of white), after we had a really nice stretch of spring temperatures of 18°C highs and sun. It's now melting but it was well over 5cm. I don't mind snow in January or February (though it's getting rather rare here compared to when I was little) but in late March it's a DNW for me. Not to mention the crazy heating costs right now, that make cold even more unwelcome.

It's crazy, isn't it? Similar in parts of my state. I just watched last night's late news (I save it for morning). North of me -- (I used to live there; only 125 miles away) -- they spent yesterday getting socked with snow after a week of temps a little warmer than yours. As you say, not unheard of... but not welcome, either. I remember in '68 or '69 we missed Easter services because our car bogged down in the snow. It didn't look that deep...

If it comes after an early warm spell it also sucks for the fruit trees.

Yeah, that happens here about one year out of three. Looks like we might get lucky this year... but there's still time for a late freeze. I'm glad I don't depend on weather for a living.

I don't even have a garden, but since the biggest fruit producing region in Northern Europe is right next to us, the state of the cherry and apple trees always makes the news.
