The way this pandemic is going here is so frustrating. My state currently has the highest incidence among German states, and is second to last for the rate of fully vaccinated (still under 50%). The only slightly positive thing is that it's not as behind with the first doses, so I hope it's not all deluded anti-vaxxers. It's still three weeks until my second dose is scheduled too.

And even though we're now past the incidence level when they were supposed to implement more control measures to stop it getting even worse, the local politicians said they won't. Claim it's not necessary because a good portion of the infections were acquired on vacation, not locally. Sigh.

Here we've only had enough vaccine since July or so, like I couldn't get my first shot any earlier than the middle of July, but now there's enough, yet the pace has still slowed down. Here it's around 64% for first shots and that really needs to get better before winter. They are now doing more outreach to make it easy and convenient, when before they could mostly just offer and the eager portion of the population would show up.

Well, older people, medical personnel and people with risk factors etc. could get it earlier, so in aggregate that's a lot of people already, but I'm in the under 65 and no health or occupational risks group. I think I was about as fast as any non-prioritized who didn't go to extreme efforts of getting put on dozens of waitlists to pounce on some appointment that might open up from a cancelation or something.

So with that in mind, I think there's still a good number of people who aren't opposed to getting vaccinated and maybe intend to get around to it after their summer vacation because they didn't manage to snag an appointment before, when they were so scarce. There is a sizeable anti-vax movement here, but it's not as bad as in the US. So I hope the local vaccination rate will go up further still.

Though the US is definitely exporting craziness that gets then locally adapted. I wish that got more under control, because the wackadoodle conspiracy theories spread like any other US popular culture. I mean, I have no idea why some people here are now into QAnon etc. when it doesn't even make sense in an US context, but it happens, and it's even easier for weird vaccine side effect rumors.

I'm currently disgruntled that here the medical organizations are overly cautious, like here they still don't recommend it for pregnant people, because the initial study didn't include them, even though by now other countries recommend it and getting covid seems to be potentially quite bad during pregnancies. And while it can be given to children over twelve if a doctor agrees, they only recommend it for children with risk factors. And while some politicians are pushing (because they want the schools open), they now complain about undue pressure. My niece (who is 12) and whose parents would love to have her vaccinated, have been unable to achieve that despite trying for a month now. Her pediatrican won't do it, and the city vaccination centers only accept people 16+.

And this kind of attitude makes other people more uncertain too. Like I bet there are people who aren't pregnant right now, but think that if it's not given during pregnancy that's a sign that it is "toxic" or something.
